Positive Thinking Gets You In Shape

The Power of Positive Thinking

Actions speak louder than words, and get you to your goal much quicker

Positive Thinking Life Fitness HealthWe’re surrounded by positive statements. Marketing history was made when a bunch of guys at Nike were sitting around the table and someone said, “You guys, you just do it!” Obama’s advisors took a once long-shot candidate and put him in the White House with their 2008 campaign slogan, “Yes we can!”

What these saying have in come is a call to action. There is no doubt that sitting around mulling about your future is not going get you far. Action, not thought, is what makes the ball go from point A to point B. An old Japanese proverb puts this philosophy simply: Fall seven times, get up eight.

“If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.” Those words from William Arthur Ward should be written on the palm of everyone’s hand (or at least on a 3 x 5 card in your purse!)

I Have A Dream

Martin Luther King changed our world with those words. We can change our worlds with the same type of positive thought. Samuel Johnson once said, “Nothing will ever be attempted if all possible objections must first be overcome.” It means that nobody ever wins big on a sure bet. It means not even trying is worse than trying and failing.

“The only way to find the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible,” that was Arthur Clarke.

So what’s your dream? Fame? A modeling career? Success? Money? Or maybe you want to be a professional dancer, a lawyer or politician? According to one Greek philosopher you must “First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.”

It takes planning, and action. Thinking about the next Ujena Jam isn’t going to jump start your career the way going to a Jam will. Going prepared, in shape, tan, healthy, poised and with a dozen great poses in mind is going to help once you arrive. That means, as Doug Firebaugh once said, “Every day do something that will inch you closer to a better tomorrow.”

Getting In Shape

Can’t stay on a diet or regular workout routine? Know that taking a ballet class will help you move with more grace? Then write these down as goals, first one week of goals, then two weeks, then three. “If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up someplace else.”  Yogi Berra the baseball player  said that.

Think of it in terms of getting in your car. You wouldn’t start driving unless you knew where you were headed. You’d choose the quickest and safest routine, and negotiate all the turns, stops and merges until you arrive at your destination.

Life is just like that road map. You plan it out, one day, two days or a week at a time, and then you follow it.

Positive thinking and taking action are signs of a winner. There are lots of books to help you make these decisions, lots of great sayings to put up on your bedroom mirror. There are journals and log books to help hold you accountable.

It all starts with a dream. What’s yours?
